Scientific research is the key to manufacturing

The President of Zimbabwe inaugurated Emerson MnangagwaThe 14th Zimbabwe International Research Symposium, held at the Harare International Convention Centre, officially commenced, emphasizing that scientific research is the cornerstone for driving innovation and industrial development in the country.

In his opening remarks, Mnangagwa stressed the importance of directing academic research towards finding practical and applicable solutions, calling on researchers, innovators and industry leaders to promote the integration of theoretical knowledge and market needs, which will contribute to accelerating the pace of modernization and industrialization.

The scientific research law strengthens the innovation system.

The Zimbabwean president noted that the recent passage of the Scientific Research Act has contributed to strengthening the national innovation system, opening new horizons for the development of local technology and supporting the knowledge-based economy.

In a related context, Mnangagwa called for the adoption of an ethical and comprehensive approach to the use of artificial intelligence technologies, stressing the need to direct research towards vital sectors such as precision agriculture, healthcare, and financial technology, given their pivotal role in achieving sustainable development.

He explained that the Education 5.0 model, which the government is adopting within the framework of the Second Republic, aims to prepare a generation of innovators and entrepreneurs capable of turning ideas into productive projects, calling on the private sector to play a greater role in supporting local innovations and cooperating with research institutions to market new technology.

Mnangagwa affirmed his government’s commitment to supporting national inventions and empowering creative youth, noting his admiration for the projects displayed during his visit to the exhibition pavilions accompanying the symposium, which were presented by higher education institutions and school students, considering them to reflect promising potential that should be transformed into marketable products.

The President concluded his speech by emphasizing that these efforts represent an important step towards achieving Zimbabwe's Vision 2030, which aims to build a diversified economy based on innovation and knowledge.
