 Morocco is strengthening its position as an emerging industrial power thanks to the automotive sector, surpassing Spain.

The Spanish newspaper El Economista revealed that Morocco It continues to consolidate its position as one of the emerging economies in the region, benefiting from an economic model based on manufacturing and exports, especially in the automotive industry, which has become the main driver of the Moroccan economy in recent years.

The report explained that expectations fund The International Monetary Fund indicates that the Moroccan economy could achieve growth rates exceeding 4% annually until 2031, compared to only about 2% for the Spanish economy, reflecting the rapid economic transformations taking place in the Kingdom.

The automotive sector surpasses phosphates.

The report indicated that the automotive industry has become the leading export sector in Morocco, surpassing phosphate revenues, which for decades constituted one of the country's most important sources of income.

According to the newspaper, Morocco’s annual production is approaching 960,000 cars, of which more than 751,000 are exported to European markets, benefiting from Morocco’s strategic geographical location and its trade agreements with the European Union.

The report also noted that the Kingdom seeks to double its production capacity to reach two million cars annually by 2030, as part of its plans to boost local manufacturing and increase the competitiveness of its industrial exports.

Global investments and a sophisticated industrial network

The newspaper highlighted Morocco’s success in attracting major investments from global car manufacturers, including Renault Group and Stellantis, which have huge factories and production centers within the Kingdom.

The report indicated that these investments contributed to the creation of an integrated industrial network comprising hundreds of local and international suppliers, which strengthened Morocco’s integration into global automotive production chains.

Observers believe that this industrial expansion reflects the success of Moroccan economic policies in diversifying income sources and reducing dependence on traditional sectors, in addition to enhancing the country's attractiveness to foreign investments.

Accelerated economic transformation

The report confirmed that Morocco has been able in recent years to develop an advanced industrial and logistical infrastructure, including ports, roads and industrial zones, making it an important regional platform for manufacturing and exporting to Europe and Africa.

He also noted that the Kingdom is increasingly relying on industries related to energy transition and electric vehicles, in light of growing global demand for low-emission vehicles.
