Nigeria topped the African countries in the medal tally during the 2026 Commonwealth Games, after winning 24 medals, including 10 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze, to occupy seventh place in the overall standings of the tournament.
The competition witnessed a historic achievement for Nigerian runner Samuel Ogazi (20 years old), who became the first Nigerian man to win the gold medal in the 400-meter race.
85 medals for Africa
South Africa collected 28 medals, including 7 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze, but it came behind Nigeria in the ranking of African countries due to the latter's superiority in the number of gold medals.
Namibia also won three medals, one silver and two bronze, all in boxing competitions. Tray Agen Ndfelo won the silver medal in the men's 60 kg category, while Philip Hausip won the bronze medal in the men's 55 kg category, and Misha Araies won the bronze medal in the women's 51 kg category.
The total number of medals won by African countries in the 2026 Commonwealth Games was approximately 85 across various competitions.
