The Foreign Minister affirms Egypt's full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

The need to release the kidnapped Egyptian sailors

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister Foreign Ministry The Minister of International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia, met today, Monday, on the sidelines of the Korean-African Ministerial Meeting, where the meeting addressed developments in Somalia and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Minister Abdel-Aati praised the deep historical relations that unite the two countries, stressing the keenness to develop bilateral relations in all economic, developmental and investment fields, and emphasizing the continued strengthening of the strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries in all security and trade fields in a way that fulfills the aspirations of the two peoples and enhances stability and development.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry demands the immediate release of the sailors kidnapped in Somalia.

The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of expediting the release of the kidnapped Egyptian sailors, ensuring their safety, and working towards their release.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the preservation of its national institutions, stressing Egypt’s complete rejection of any unilateral measures that affect the unity of Somali territory or diminish its sovereignty, and Egypt’s condemnation of the illegal and unacceptable step taken by the Northwest Region of Somalia, the so-called “Somaliland” region, to open an alleged “embassy” in the occupied city of Jerusalem, in flagrant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, and in direct violation of the legal and historical status of the occupied city of Jerusalem.

In the same context, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of continuing efforts with international partners to mobilize sufficient and sustainable funding for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) so that it can perform its tasks to the fullest extent.

For his part, the Somali Foreign Minister reviewed the latest developments in Somalia’s internal situation and the efforts made by the Somali government to enhance security and stability and continue building state institutions, expressing his deep appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role for his country on various levels, and stressing the keenness to continue strengthening cooperation with Egypt in a way that achieves the interests of the two brotherly peoples and supports security and stability in the Horn of Africa.
