Liberian President meets with oil refinery delegation: Review of oil tanker complex performance and expansion plan

On Monday, June 22, 2026, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., President of the State of Liberia, received the Board of Directors of the Liberian Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) and its management team at the Presidential Palace, where they gave a comprehensive presentation on the company’s performance and strategic priorities.

The delegation was headed by Chairman Aaron Wigar, along with General Manager Amos Tueh, Deputy General Manager for Administration Jacob Smith, Deputy General Manager for Operations Eric Saye, Financial Controller Mr. Soko, and members of the Board of Directors.

During the meeting, the leadership of the Liberian Petroleum Refining Company presented the company’s performance report for the first quarter of 2026 and the annual report for 2025, highlighting operational achievements, financial performance and efforts to strengthen the infrastructure for storing and distributing petroleum in Liberia.

President Boakai's delegation was briefed on the proposed 50,000 metric ton oil storage complex project, a huge strategic investment aimed at expanding the country's oil storage capacity, enhancing energy security, and supporting national economic growth.

President Boakai commended the board and management team for their commitment to transparency, accountability and corporate performance, stressing the importance of ensuring a reliable and sustainable oil sector that contributes effectively to Liberia’s development agenda.

The President also urged the leadership of the Liberian National Oil Corporation (LPRC) to continue initiatives that improve operational efficiency, enhance public confidence, and make the company a key driver of national progress.

This meeting comes as part of the government’s ongoing engagement with state-owned enterprises to monitor performance, promote good governance, and align institutional priorities with broader government development goals.
