A senior UN official visits Baidoa, Somalia, and is briefed on the situation of displaced people.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator conducted a field visit to Baidoa, the capital of Southwest State, as part of international efforts to strengthen the humanitarian response in Somalia.

The visit included an inspection tour of the displaced persons camps on the outskirts of the city, where the UN official was briefed on the escalating humanitarian challenges facing thousands of displaced families, in light of the lack of basic services and urgent relief needs.
The official also held a meeting with the interim leadership of the Southwest State, during which they discussed ways to enhance coordination between local and international bodies, and to support humanitarian response efforts in order to improve the living conditions of those affected.
