The Libyan Minister of Health discusses strengthening health security and regional cooperation with the Africa CDC.

Discussions focused on strengthening health cooperation and developing Libya's capabilities.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Ghouj met, Libyan Minister of HealthWith officials from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), on the sidelines of the Africa Health ExCon 2026 conference, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field of health security and the development of the health system in Libya and North Africa.

Discussions focused on strengthening health cooperation and developing Libya's capabilities.

The meeting addressed the role of the Libyan Center for Disease Control (Libya CDC) and the possibility of developing it into a regional center of excellence, in addition to discussing the activation of the regional coordination center for North Africa, supporting local manufacturing of medical supplies, unified procurement mechanisms, as well as Libya’s contribution to the African response efforts to the Ebola disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

During the meeting, Africa CDC officials congratulated Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghouj on his confirmation as Minister of Health, and also praised Libya’s success in hosting the recent exchange visit of North African countries.

Both sides stressed the importance of continuing joint cooperation to enhance preparedness for health emergencies, develop epidemiological surveillance systems, support laboratories, develop health personnel, and strengthen regional cooperation in a way that contributes to supporting health security in the African continent.

Africa CDC officials stressed that building strong national institutions, promoting credible regional leadership, and strengthening solidarity among African countries are the essential pillars for advancing the continent’s health security agenda.
