Libyan investigations reveal details of a young man's disappearance since 2017
Libyan security services have uncovered one of the most complex and bizarre criminal cases, after successfully solving the mystery of a young man’s disappearance since 2017. It was later revealed that the crime was committed within a family setting, as three sisters killed him and hid his body for more than nine years.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department, Coast Branch, affiliated with the Marj Security Directorate, the threads of the case began in the “Bata” area of the Coast Municipality, following a report of the mysterious disappearance of a young man, before extensive investigations led to the discovery of the victim’s remains buried inside an abandoned farm belonging to the family, located in an isolated area among the forests.
A surprise in the investigations
The investigations revealed that a special operations room was formed to uncover the circumstances of the incident, as a family member provided initial information suggesting the involvement of the victim’s sisters, before subsequent investigations confirmed the validity of those suspicions.
After the accused were apprehended, one of them confessed to the details of the crime, indicating that a family dispute escalated into a violent assault, during which she used a “glass cigarette ashtray” to deliver a fatal blow to the victim’s head, followed by another blow using an “iron hammer,” which led to his immediate death.
Attempt to cover up the crime
According to the confessions, the accused wrapped the body in a blanket, then transported it to the abandoned farm, where it was completely burned before the remains and ashes were buried underground, in an attempt to conceal the traces of the crime.
Investigators indicate that this step was the main reason for the delay in discovering the truth all these years, as the case has remained secret since 2017.
Ongoing legal action
For its part, the Libyan Public Prosecution ordered that the remains be preserved and referred to forensic medicine for examination and documentation of criminal evidence, while the accused women remain in custody pending investigation, awaiting the completion of the case file and its referral to the judiciary.
