According to media reports, the vehicle was on its way back to Juba city, after transporting the body of a family member to the village of Fora in Mundri County East for burial, when it was intercepted by unknown gunmen who opened fire, killing two women and injuring four others.
Authorities in Mondri County East have not yet issued any official statement regarding the incident or details of the victims, nor have they announced the identity of the perpetrators of the attack.
The circumstances and motives behind the attack remain unknown, while security authorities are expected to launch an investigation to uncover the identity of the perpetrators and the circumstances of the incident.
Some roads linking the provinces of Western Equatoria State with the capital Juba witness similar security incidents from time to time, which raises concerns among citizens about the safety of travel on these roads.
