Malian army on the battle of Anfis city: We have regained control of all locations

The army affirmed its full capability to defend the national territory

The General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces announced today, Monday, that units of the armed forces continued to fight with “great courage and discipline” throughout yesterday, Sunday, in the city of Ansongo in the north of the country. This comes after clashes in the city resumed “following the arrival of enemy reinforcements of personnel and equipment,” with the aim of “exerting pressure.”.

Regain initiative and control

The General Staff clarified in a statement issued by it that the army, with the support of its partners, “regained the initiative and control of the situation in all the towns targeted by hostile attacks” on Saturday, through the “coordinated air and ground response” it carried out.

The Authority reaffirmed “its full confidence in the ability of the Malian Armed Forces to defend the national territory, protect the population, and defeat enemy forces,” calling on “all citizens to maintain their confidence and support their armed forces.”.

For its part, the Russian African Corps also announced on its Facebook page today the “destruction of a terrorist pickup truck carrying ammunition by one of its drones.”.

Azawad Liberation Front

In contrast, the spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front, Mohamed El Mouloud Ramadan, announced on his Facebook page that the front's forces had shot down “another drone used by Russian mercenaries and the Military Council (Malian) forces in the vicinity of Anfigh”. Yesterday, Sunday, he had announced the downing of a helicopter belonging to the Russian Africa Corps.

On Saturday dawn, Malian army sites in five regions – Aguelhok, Ansongo, Gao, Sèvèré, and Kénièrouba – were subjected.

The Azawad Liberation Front, in coordination with the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims, launched armed attacks on April 25th, targeting Bamako, Kati, Konna, Mopti, Ségou, Kidal, and Gao. Mali's Minister of Defense, Sadio Camara, was killed during these attacks.
