The arrival of the fourth batch of deportees from the United States to Eswatini sparks a human rights controversy.
Migrants arrive in Eswatini under the US deportation program

The fourth batch of migrants deported from the United States has arrived in Eswatini, consisting of 11 individuals. This deportation is part of the third-country deportation policy implemented by the US administration, which has sparked new criticism from human rights organizations and lawyers who argue that some of those deported have legal protections that prevent their removal.
With the arrival of this group, the total number of deportees received by Eswatini under the agreement with the United States has risen to 29, according to legal sources familiar with the case.
Concerns about the conditions of detainees in Metsava
Lawyers following the case confirmed that the deported individuals are being held in the Matsava correctional facility, amid concerns about detention conditions and the inability of some to receive adequate legal support.
One lawyer pointed out that at least two of the deportees have a special legal status within the United States, which has led human rights organizations to question the legality of their deportation to a country that is not their country of origin.
The policy of deporting to third countries is controversial.
This step comes as part of an American policy that relies on deporting some migrants to third countries when they cannot be returned to their home countries. This policy has faced widespread criticism from human rights organizations, which believe it may expose deportees to legal and humanitarian risks.
In contrast, the U.S. administration affirms that these measures target individuals, some of whom have criminal convictions, and that they are part of its efforts to strengthen enforcement of immigration laws.
Eswatini remains silent on the current situation
The government of Eswatini has not issued an official statement regarding the arrival of the new batch, nor has it disclosed details about the conditions of the deported individuals or the duration of their detention. Meanwhile, human rights organizations continue to call for independent monitoring of their situation and assurance that their fundamental rights are respected.
Continued controversy over the immigration file
The arrival of new batches of deportees in Eswatini reflects the ongoing controversy surrounding US immigration policies, especially concerning the deportation of migrants to countries other than their homelands. Observers believe the issue will remain a subject of legal and human rights debate in the coming period, with increasing demands for ensuring these measures comply with international law and human rights standards.
