The Democratic Republic of Congo has opened a second Ebola treatment center in North Kivu. The center, with a capacity of 20 beds, aims to improve specialized care and alleviate pressure on local health facilities.
The Minister of Health for North Kivu province commented on the inauguration, saying: This Ebola treatment center is the second modular center to be built in our province, North Kivu.
We have an Ebola treatment center in Katwa, and this new center is at Beni General Hospital. And of course, according to our plans, more Ebola treatment centers and transit centers will be built.
We are still at the beginning. All of this is in our people's interest because when people get sick, it is the government's responsibility to protect its citizens.
First Ebola recovery
Beni, where the new center is located, also recorded its first Ebola recovery, a patient discharged in late June, a rare positive achievement in the country's battle against the outbreak.
“This document confirms that our sister Keffira Mukelo Charlene is no longer considered an Ebola patient, but rather a survivor, meaning she has overcome the disease,” said Jeremy Katsafara, a doctor treating Ebola patients.
She said, “So you will help us raise awareness and spread the message within the community that Ebola is not to be taken lightly.”
Medical teams confirm that her recovery shows that early treatment can save lives. They urge communities to seek medical care as soon as symptoms appear.
She thanked the teams, saying: "Thank you very much for accepting the sponsorship provided by our teams and for all the efforts they have made for you. We believe that you will be able to convey a message to the community and others that this disease truly exists.".
And he concluded, ”And that if anyone agrees to seek treatment in a timely manner, they have a very good chance of recovery," said Michel Toussaint Sanasana, chief medical officer for the Beni Health Zone.
