In a festive atmosphere and with a large attendance of government sector employees, the Chief Civil Service Officer of Ghana, Dr. Evans Agre-Darkoh, inaugurated the 2026 Ministerial Civil Service Games during an official ceremony held at Accra Sports Stadium, as part of the activities of the annual Ghanaian Government Civil Service Week.
This year’s Civil Service Week is being held under the theme: “A reset agenda for sustainable development in Ghana: The responsibility of the civil service,” as part of a government initiative aimed at enhancing the efficiency of public institutions and improving the level of services provided to citizens, in addition to supporting the work environment within state institutions.

The opening ceremony witnessed broad participation from employees of ministries, government agencies and public institutions, as the occasion turned into a platform to promote the spirit of cooperation and communication among public sector employees, as well as to emphasize the importance of teamwork in supporting the path of sustainable development within the country.

In his opening remarks, Civil Service Chief Dr. Evans Agre-Darkoh emphasized that Civil Service Week has become an important institutional tradition in Ghana, noting that it is no longer just a celebratory event, but has transformed into a space to promote professional unity and build a shared identity among civil servants.
He added that the success of the government’s “reset agenda” depends largely on the civil service’s ability to improve institutional performance, raise the efficiency of public service delivery, and provide a healthy and stimulating environment for employees in the state’s administrative apparatus.
For her part, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Wilhelmina Asanwah, stressed the importance of the ministerial games in promoting multi-sectoral cooperation between state institutions, explaining that these events contribute to strengthening professional and social ties among civil servants.
Asanwah called on government sector employees to actively participate in various activities and to use the occasion to renew their commitment to public service and serving citizens, stressing that improving government performance begins with strengthening the spirit of belonging and responsibility within institutions.
The opening ceremony featured a number of sporting and entertainment events, but the friendly football match between the Civil Service team and the Parliamentary Service team was the highlight of the ceremony, attracting the attention of the attendees amidst a competitive and festive atmosphere that reflected the spirit of cooperation between Ghanaian state institutions.
