Mali: Prime Minister meets with the President of the ECOWAS Commission
Mali's talks with the Economic Union of West African States Commission

The Prime Minister, the head of government, of the Republic of Mali, received the Major General Abdullah MaigaAbdoulaye Diop, President of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union.
Diop led a delegation that came to participate in the political phase of the annual review of the Union’s reforms, policies, programs and projects, which was held on Monday, June 8, 2026.
The Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance, Alousini Sano, President of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, presented a report on the audit work, summarized the conclusions of the meetings, and requested guidance from the Prime Minister to ensure the success of the Commission’s tasks.
The Commission President congratulated Mali on its remarkable progress, with the implementation rate of the EU texts reaching 76% by 2025.
Financial commitment to economic governance
The result reflects Mali’s continued commitment to the sub-region in areas such as economic governance, common market convergence, and sectoral reforms, where Mali has stood out with its outstanding performance.
The report also assessed the status of implementation of the six Commission projects carried out in Mali in the areas of agriculture, water and energy.
The President also addressed the challenges facing the sub-region, expressing the solidarity of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, and praising the resilience of the Malian people and the courageous decisions taken by the authorities in combating terrorism.
The Prime Minister congratulated the Chair of the Commission and all stakeholders on the quality of their work and reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuing this approach. He urged the Minister of State and the Minister of Economy and Finance to continue their efforts to consolidate these achievements and make progress in future evaluations.
The Prime Minister praised the position of the West African Economic and Monetary Union and its ability to understand the specific situation in Mali, stressing that the Union’s objectives are fully in line with the Malian authorities’ vision for the country’s development. Finally, he welcomed the Commission’s pragmatic approach and reaffirmed Mali’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations within the framework of sub-regional integration.
