The Prime Minister EthiopianPrime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited the Jobiz Solar Cells factory in Addis Ababa, located within the Hawajian Special Economic Zone, this morning as part of his follow-up on industrial and investment projects. The Ethiopian Prime Minister explained, via his official page on the social networking site, that the factory was established based on an agreement signed during the Ethiopia Investment Forum 2025, with initial investments amounting to $100 million, noting that the project represents a model for investment partnerships aimed at strengthening the local industrial sector.

The factory will be operational within six months.  

Abiy Ahmed confirmed that the factory entered the operational phase in just six months thanks to intensive follow-up and government support, noting that it is equipped with the latest machinery and advanced technologies, enabling highly efficient production in the field of solar cell manufacturing.

He pointed out that the project provided job opportunities for a large number of citizens, in a step that supports the government’s efforts to reduce unemployment rates and raise the efficiency of national labor in modern industrial sectors.

Production capacity of 2 gigawatts per year

The Prime Minister explained that the factory, in its first phase, has an annual production capacity of up to 2 gigawatts, which represents an important addition to Ethiopia’s capabilities in the field of renewable energy, and contributes to achieving the national vision aimed at meeting local energy demand entirely from clean and sustainable sources.

Abiy Ahmed’s visit also included inspecting a shoe manufacturing plant and a power substation within the industrial park, as part of monitoring the progress of various projects within the special economic zone.

In a related context, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched the Addis Mesob digital mobile government service, the first of its kind in the country, with the aim of facilitating citizens“ access to public services in various regions without the need to go to traditional government offices.

The initiative relies on fully equipped mobile buses that operate as integrated service centers, enabling the provision of a wide range of government services at the citizen's location, reflecting a shift in the way public services are delivered towards a more flexible and efficient model.
