Ahead of Independence Day, a comprehensive campaign to beautify Djibouti, with the participation of the army and citizens.

To enhance the quality of life within the city

Talks continued in the Djiboutian capital on Monday. Cleanliness campaigns Beautification is underway for the third day in a row, as part of intensive preparations to celebrate the 49th anniversary of national independence, amid broad participation from various state and community institutions.

The mayor of Djibouti City, Said Daoud Mohamed Al-Mazjaji, and the governor of the capital led the field mobilization efforts, with the participation of the defense and security forces, in a comprehensive campaign aimed at improving the urban appearance and enhancing the quality of life within the city.

These ongoing efforts reflect the authorities’ keenness to present a civilized image befitting the capital during national celebrations, and embody the spirit of cooperation between government agencies, local authorities, security forces and citizens, to achieve a common goal of building a cleaner and more attractive city.

Extensive interventions in the municipality of Blaos

The campaign included extensive interventions in the municipality of Bulaos, focusing on a number of vital sites, including Martyr Mahmoud Harbi Square, which is one of the most prominent symbolic landmarks in Djibouti. The work included carrying out comprehensive cleaning operations, collecting and transporting waste, removing weeds, pruning trees, painting sidewalks, as well as maintaining public facilities.

These works were carried out with the participation of a number of entities, including the National Gendarmerie, the Armed Forces, and the National Police, along with service institutions and civil society organizations, within a joint coordination framework aimed at raising the efficiency of services and improving the urban environment.

The field teams had completed similar work in the June 27 Square in Ras Dika municipality, as well as in the first district, before moving on to the municipality of Bulaus to continue their efforts.

This initiative falls under the «Djibouti Without Waste» program, through which the municipality, in cooperation with the governorate, seeks to establish a culture of cleanliness and environmental preservation, going beyond temporary preparations for national celebrations.

In this context, the city's mayor stressed that maintaining the city's cleanliness is a collective responsibility, emphasizing the importance of citizens' commitment to contributing to the preservation of public facilities, alongside the efforts of institutions.

As the celebration of Independence Day on June 27 approaches, the capital of Djibouti continues to promote this community mobilization, as a model of cooperation and solidarity, and an embodiment of the spirit of national belonging.

Local authorities confirmed that cleaning and beautification campaigns will continue even after the celebrations end, with the aim of preserving the gains and achieving sustainability in improving the urban environment and quality of life within the city.
