Uganda unveils new government led by Robinah Nabanga

Museveni announces the formation of the new Ugandan government and widespread appointments.

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta announced Museveni The list of new government appointments included the positions of Vice President, Prime Minister, Ministers, Ministers of State and Senior Presidential Advisors, pursuant to the constitutional powers vested in him under the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.

New Ugandan government and extensive appointments

A presidential statement confirmed that the new formation comes within the framework of reorganizing state institutions and enhancing the efficiency of government work, with a focus on security, economic development, regional integration and social services.

The appointments saw Jessica Rose Abel Alobo retained as Vice President, while Robinah Nabanga was re-elected as Prime Minister and leader of government business in Parliament.

The new government also included a number of prominent political figures, including Rebecca Kadaga, who assumed the position of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, along with the appointment of Dr. Crispus Walter Kiyonga as Second Deputy Prime Minister, while Lukia Nakadama held the position of Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio.

In the most prominent ministerial portfolios, Janet Kataha Museveni retained the Ministry of Education and Sports, while Henry Musasezi took over the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and Ambassador Adonia Aibari was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, while the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs was assigned to Kiriwa Kiwanka.

The appointments also included Jim Muhezi as Minister of Security, Dr. Monica Musinero Musanza as Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr. Chris Barrio Muncie as Minister of Health, and Jane Ruth Aching Ochiru as Minister of Information and Communication Technology and National Orientation.

In the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao was appointed Minister, while Tom Potemi took over the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, and Sanjay Tanna was appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

The changes also included new appointments to the positions of Ministers of State in the agriculture, energy, health, education, infrastructure, foreign affairs and local government sectors, along with the redistribution of a number of government responsibilities.

As part of strengthening the presidential administration, Museveni announced the appointment of a number of political figures as senior presidential advisors in various fields to be determined later, including Hamson Oboa, Ruth Nankabirua, Francis Mwepsa and Evelyn Anite.

The statement also noted the transfer of Dr. Kenneth Omona to the diplomatic corps as Uganda’s ambassador to one of the foreign missions that will be announced later.

Observers believe that the new government lineup reflects the Ugandan leadership's orientation towards strengthening political stability and supporting economic development plans, especially in light of the regional and economic challenges facing the country and the East African region.
