France announced that it is considering taking appropriate measures following Burkina Faso's decision to sever diplomatic ties with Paris, a move that reflects the continued tension between the two countries amid the political transformations taking place in the Sahel region.

The French Foreign Ministry confirmed that it had taken note of the decision issued by the Burkinabe authorities, noting that it was monitoring developments and assessing the available options for dealing with the diplomatic developments.

The decision by the authorities in Burkina Faso to sever diplomatic relations with France came amid growing tensions between the two sides in recent years, which have worsened following political changes in the country and escalating rhetoric rejecting French influence in the Sahel region.

Relations between the two countries have witnessed a marked decline since the military authorities came to power, as Ouagadougou moved to reformulate its foreign and security partnerships.
