Burkina Faso has taken a new step towards boosting local agricultural manufacturing, after the opening by the company Djibana Faso of a modern cashew and mango processing plant in the village of Mi, in the rural municipality of Beni, in the Guérico region, in a project that is considered one of the largest agro-industrial investments in the country.

A new industrial complex to process 10,000 tons of cashew nuts annually has been opened in Burkina Faso.

The factory was officially opened on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the presence of representatives of local and regional authorities. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the Guerrico Region, represented by the Secretary General of the Huet Province, Sompinywende Nikima.

The new industrial complex is located on an area of 7.2 hectares and aims to enhance the added value of local agricultural products by processing and manufacturing them within the country instead of exporting them as raw materials, thereby contributing to supporting the national economy and improving the conditions of local producers.

The cashew processing unit has a production capacity of approximately 10,000 tons of raw cashew nuts annually, sourced from over 7,200 local farmers and producers. The facility also includes a specialized mango processing unit with a production capacity of up to 4,000 tons of dried mangoes annually, destined for both domestic and export markets.

The project is expected to contribute to providing direct and indirect job opportunities for local communities, especially for women who constitute a large percentage of workers in sorting, packing and processing operations, which enhances the role of women in economic activity in rural areas.

The project managers confirmed that the factory adheres to international standards related to quality, food safety and product traceability, which enhances the competitiveness of Burkinabe products in regional and global markets.

This investment is seen as an important driver of economic development in the Guérico region, and reflects Burkina Faso’s orientation towards promoting local manufacturing and transforming agricultural raw materials into higher value-added products.

Through this project, Gipana Faso seeks to contribute to the structural transformation of the national economy by supporting agricultural production chains, improving farmers’ incomes, and creating sustainable jobs, thereby promoting economic and social development in rural areas and reducing dependence on exporting raw materials without processing.
