The annual meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) emphasize the importance of African countries relying on their own capabilities, with discussions focusing on the need to strengthen regional value chains and accelerate the pace of industrial transformation within the continent, as they are the main pillars for achieving sustainable and strong economic growth in Africa, in light of the accelerating geopolitical shifts and escalating tensions and conflicts globally.

Afreximbank Meetings 2026

The Afreximbank meetings will be held from June 25 to 27, 2026, immediately following the annual meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and coinciding with the African Union's semi-annual summit. The Egyptian government, in cooperation with the African Union Commission, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), is organizing the El Alamein African Forum, which is the first of its kind.

The Afreximbank Annual Meetings discuss working to consolidate regional value chains, enhance economic sovereignty in the African continent, and how to leverage regional integration and intra-African trade to accelerate industrial transformation. The meetings are attended by a number of heads of state, government officials, policymakers, private sector leaders, financial institutions, academia, and international partners from Africa and beyond.

Afreximbank meetings

This year's Afreximbank Annual Meetings represent a concerted African effort to deepen regional integration, support industrial development, enhance economic resilience, and build new investment and trade partnerships that contribute to expanding operations across the continent.

This trend comes at a time when the global economy is witnessing an increase in protectionist policies, a shift in international alliances, and a growing tendency to prioritize individual economic interests, making the strengthening of African cooperation even more urgent.

In this context, the meetings represent a promising opportunity for Egyptian companies and the private sector to benefit from the large African market, by enhancing participation and building new investment and trade partnerships that contribute to expanding the scope of work within the continent.

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) aims to develop effective implementation programs that will drive the restructuring of trade within the African continent and work to identify priority projects, through a series of strategic discussions, dialogues, and constructive interactions among those present, in light of the global economy.

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) seeks to identify priority projects and practical programs capable of supporting the transformation of the trade structure within the African continent, through a series of strategic dialogues and constructive interactions between various parties, in light of a global environment witnessing rising protectionist policies, changing economic alliances, and increasing reliance on the self-interests of countries, which reinforces the need for broader African coordination.

Dr. George Elombe, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank, affirmed at the last meeting that he had succeeded over the past decade in laying strong foundations for promoting intra-African trade, which contributed to supporting trade exchange between African countries. ”As we enter this new phase, we must prioritize the manufacturing of goods traded under the free trade agreement.”
With the entry into a new phase of economic activity, it has become necessary to focus on prioritizing the manufacturing of goods traded within the framework of the Continental Free Trade Agreement, thereby enhancing the added value of African products and supporting the growth of industry within the continent. In light of the current global turmoil, the uncertainty of policies, and the exacerbation of geopolitical tensions, Africans must look internally for solutions that suit their challenges. We must free ourselves from dependence on the trade of raw materials.

He pointed out that expanding investment in manufacturing, building regional value chains, and consuming products are essential to achieving the shared growth and prosperity we aspire to.”

The 2026 Afreximbank Annual Meetings aim to explore and close investment deals, connect with high-level decision-makers, build partnerships across value chains, and stay informed about the latest developments in trade finance and logistics. The meetings will serve as a platform for developing partnerships and structuring bankable projects across the continent.
