Russia and Madagascar discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordinating international positions in Moscow

Talks between Lavrov and his Malagasy counterpart in the Russian capital

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Madagascar's Foreign Minister Alice Ndaye in Moscow, as part of joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries in a number of political and economic sectors.

The visit comes at a time when Russian-African relations are gaining momentum, with Moscow seeking to expand its partnerships within the African continent, while Madagascar is working to diversify its international relations and attract investment and economic cooperation with new partners.

Lavrov emphasizes the importance of developing bilateral relations

During the joint press conference that followed the talks, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the meeting represented an opportunity to assess the level of cooperation between the two countries and to look for additional steps to strengthen bilateral relations.

Lavrov noted that contacts between Moscow and the new leadership in Madagascar have been remarkably active in recent months, stressing the importance of developing coordination between the two countries on the international stage and strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest.

Madagascar seeks to expand cooperation with Russia

For her part, the Foreign Minister of Madagascar affirmed that the talks with the Russian side will contribute to deepening bilateral relations and opening new horizons for cooperation in various sectors.

She noted that the visit comes in the wake of meetings between the leadership of the two countries during the past months, which reflected a shared desire to give bilateral relations new momentum and enhance economic and investment cooperation.

Economic and investment cooperation is a top priority.

It is estimated that agriculture, energy, mining and investment are among the most prominent sectors that could witness greater cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.

Madagascar is also seeking to attract foreign investment to support economic development, while Russia continues to expand its economic and trade presence in a number of African countries.
