
Ethiopian Tigist Assefa broke her own women's world record on Sunday, winning the London 2026 Marathon in a time of 2:15:4.
Kenyan Helen Obiri came in second, and Kenyan Joyceline Jepkosgei came in third.

Tigist Assefa achieved a resounding victory in the London Marathon on Sunday morning for the second year in a row, breaking her own women's world record by nine seconds with a time of 2:15:41.
The Ethiopian runner experienced a powerful surge as she approached the final turn leading into The Mall, resulting in her victory in a thrilling battle with the Kenyan duo of Hellen Obiri, who set a great personal best of 2:15:53 on her London debut, and 2021 winner Joyceline Jepkosgei (2:15:55).

Eilish McColgan was the first British female athlete to reach the finish line, finishing seventh with a time of 2:24:51, which is outside her Scottish record of 2:24:25 set 12 months earlier.
Julia Paternain, a bronze medalist at the World Championships, representing Uruguay and raised in the United Kingdom, finished eighth with a time of 2:25:47.
Meanwhile, Britain's Rose Harvey finished ninth with a time of 2:26:14. Louise Small completed the top three British places with a time of 2:28:29 in eleventh place, and Jess Warner-Good came in twelfth with a time of 2:29:28.
