Nigerian Police Rescue Church Kidnappers in Ekiti State and Intensify Pursuit of Perpetrators

The Ekiti State Police Command in Nigeria rescued victims who were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, during an attack on the Christ Apostolic Church in the Idò-Àníyàn community, Aiyegbámi Local Government Area of the state.

A police statement reported that one of the kidnapped individuals died while in the kidnappers' custody, while the rest of the victims were rescued following a security operation based on continuous intelligence information and coordinated efforts involving the Nigerian police force, the army, and other security agencies, in addition to the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and the Ekiti State government.
The statement clarified that the rescued victims were taken to the hospital for medical examinations and to receive the necessary treatment. This ensures their health condition is monitored and that they are provided with adequate medical care.

The State Police Commissioner, C.B. Valade Adgorouy Michael, praised what he described as the dedication, professionalism, and spirit of harmony shown by all security partners, emphasizing that their joint efforts contributed to the success of the rescue operation.

Operation successful

The commissioner also expressed his appreciation to the Ekiti State government led by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for its continued support of security agencies, which played a prominent role in the success of the operation. He also thanked the residents of the state for their cooperation, vigilance, and for providing security agencies with timely and reliable information.

The statement affirmed that efforts are currently continuing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, while the Police Commissioner stressed the Police Command's commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.
