Ahmed Salem

Two people were killed after gunmen stormed the Rumuodogo 2 community in the Imohwa Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours of Monday, causing panic among residents.

Reports indicate that the attackers stormed the area around 1 a.m. and raided homes in what residents described as a “Special Forces-style” or “commando” operation, searching for specific targets.

One resident, Monica, whose husband was among the attack victims, stated that the attackers came from a neighboring area of Rumuodogo 2.

She explained that the gunmen forced them out of their home after smashing down the door, brutally assaulted her husband, and then shot him dead.

Monica said, “They came around 1 am, broke down our door, and dragged me and my husband outside. I was completely naked when they took us out. They beat my husband before shooting him. They wanted to kill me too, but one of them said I had to be kept alive because I'm a woman.”.

As Monica claimed, the attackers accused individuals from the “Romodogo 2” area of responsibility for the murder of people whose bodies were found in a river last Monday.

Panic among residents as a result of the incident

The attack caused great shock in the region, prompting many residents to flee their homes and seek safety in nearby forests.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent Blessing Agabe, stated that two people died in the attack.

Agabe said, “I can confirm the incident occurred. Two people were killed in the attack. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and to apprehend the perpetrators.".

Police have opened an investigation into the killings, while security agencies intensify their efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. The motive behind the attack has not yet been officially determined.
