President Republic South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Friday, attended the constitutional oath-taking ceremony for the new board members of the South Sudan Media Authority, alongside a number of new government officials, during an official ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Juba.
The importance of developing the performance of the South Sudan Media Authority

Kerry stressed, in his speech during the ceremony, the importance of developing the performance of the Media Commission and enhancing its efficiency, which contributes to advancing the media sector and consolidating the standards of professionalism and ethical commitment in journalistic work.
The new Board of Directors is chaired by Kongur Dut Jok, while Cecilia Joseph Maker holds the position of Vice President, and Agu Wal Aquil was sworn in as the body's Director General. The board members include Nyankol Kuol Chol, Emmanuel Manyuol Akop, Michael James Otour, David John Komori, and Kwang Wal Chang.
The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of General Robin Loro Carlo as High Commissioner of the National Civil Defense Service, alongside Francis Luigi Adovoc, who was sworn in as a member of the National Electoral Commission.
President Kiir emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring freedom of the media and freedom of expression, while at the same time stressing the need for them to be exercised responsibly. He called on journalists to adhere to accuracy, objectivity, and the highest professional standards, considering the media a cornerstone for promoting national unity.
He also warned of the dangers of spreading hate speech and misinformation, especially through digital platforms, due to their negative impact on social cohesion, calling for responsibility in disseminating media content.
The President called on the security agencies to enhance cooperation with the media, appreciating its role in spreading awareness and serving the community. He expressed his confidence in the ability of the new officials to perform their duties efficiently and contribute to strengthening institution-building and supporting the country's path of democratic development.
The South Sudan Media Authority is an independent body established by an Act in 2013, responsible for regulating, licensing, and developing a professional and pluralistic media sector throughout the country.
