Ethiopian Airlines' revenues rise to $9.1 billion

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's largest airline, recorded revenue growth during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, rising by 20% year-on-year to reach $9.1 billion, according to reports. Ethiopian state news agency.

The results of the state-owned company showed a 10% increase in the number of passengers to 20.7 million passengers during the financial year ending July 7, an indication of the continued recovery in demand for air travel and the expansion of the national carrier's operations.

Growth in air freight activity

The company also achieved growth in air freight activity, with the volume of goods transported increasing by 16% compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 897,000 metric tons.

Ethiopian Airlines continues to implement its expansion plans, having announced last April the purchase of 6 additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft to support its long-haul flights, and in June it revealed that it intends to make a decision within 3 months regarding a new order that includes 25 small commercial aircraft to expand its domestic network.

During the last fiscal year, the company added 9 new aircraft to its fleet, which now includes more than 150 aircraft, in addition to carrying out expansion and development work on its operational facilities at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, with the aim of enhancing its ability to accommodate the continued growth in passenger and cargo traffic.

Despite strong operational performance, Ethiopian Airlines did not disclose its net profit, and the Ethiopian News Agency indicated that the financial results were affected by the cancellation of a number of flights due to tensions in the Middle East region, in addition to the repercussions of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In another context, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia held DemocracyThe Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the African Union held a reception to mark the 74th anniversary of the July 23 Revolution, with a high-level attendance of senior officials and diplomats.

The ceremony was attended by a wide range of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Addis Ababa, along with a number of senior African Union officials, most notably the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ambassador Salma Haddadi, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations.

During his speech, Ambassador Dr. Obaida Al-Dandrawi affirmed Egypt’s pride in its African identity, stressing that the future of the continent depends on strengthening solidarity and joint action among its countries, which contributes to confronting current challenges and achieving peace, stability, development and prosperity for the peoples of Africa.
