The Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrates its bicentenary and inaugurates the Egyptian Diplomacy Museum

The journey of a prestigious institution was embodied

On Thursday, June 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad celebrated its two hundredth anniversary, an occasion that embodied the journey of a long-established institution that has carried Egypt’s message to the world for two centuries, and contributed to consolidating its regional and international standing, defending its interests and preserving its national security.

The celebration was attended by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, a number of ministers, senior officials, heads of judicial institutions, former prime ministers and ministers, a number of current and former ambassadors and young diplomats, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Cairo, and a host of public figures.

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly delivered the keynote address at the celebration, during which he affirmed the state’s pride in the national and historical role played by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, praising the contributions of generations of Egyptian diplomats in serving the nation, protecting its interests, and enhancing its standing among nations.

He also expressed appreciation to the current and former members of the Ministry, and to the sacrifices of its righteous martyrs, reiterating the state’s commitment to supporting the Ministry, developing its capabilities and empowering its cadres, in order to ensure its continued performance of its national mission, based on a long history and an ambitious vision for a more prosperous future for Egypt and the region.

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, also delivered a speech on this occasion, during which he stressed that the celebration of two hundred years since the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs represents a national milestone to recall the rich legacy of Egyptian diplomacy and to renew the pledge and determination of the political leadership to continue its mission in serving the nation and defending its interests.

He pointed out that Egyptian diplomacy, under the guidance of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his leadership of summit diplomacy, has witnessed a qualitative shift in the last decade that has strengthened Egypt’s regional and international standing and consolidated the principle of strategic balance that he established, which combines adherence to principles and openness to the world in a way that serves national interests.

He also praised the continuous contributions made by successive generations of diplomats and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from administrators to support staff, recalling with all reverence and appreciation the martyrs of the Ministry who gave their lives while performing their national duty.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the members of the Ministry, expressed deep gratitude for the decision of the President of the Republic to include them among the beneficiaries of the Fund for Honoring the Martyrs, Victims and Missing Persons of Military and Terrorist Operations, appreciating his congratulations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of its establishment, which reflects the state’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of its sons and their national contributions.

For his part, Engineer Khaled Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company, delivered a speech in which he reviewed the integrated urban and developmental progress witnessed in the new capital, considering it one of the most prominent national projects that embodies the Egyptian state’s vision towards building a more modern and sustainable future.

The celebration included honoring the families of the martyrs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who were martyred while performing their duties abroad, so that they may remain an eternal symbol of loyalty to the homeland.

The celebration included the opening of a new museum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which houses a unique collection of rare historical documents, original diplomatic correspondence, treaties and agreements that documented important milestones in the history of Egypt and its foreign relations, embodying the rich legacy of Egyptian diplomacy and immortalizing the contributions of successive generations of its men and women.
