Awaited meeting with Macron: Mauritanian president heads to France
Discussions focused on economic cooperation and security coordination.

The President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, departed today, Tuesday, from the capital Nouakchott to Paris, on an official visit during which he will meet with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, as part of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Political issues of common interest
According to Mauritanian media, the talks between the two sides are expected to cover a number of vital issues, including economic cooperation, security coordination, and political issues of common interest, especially in the Sahel region, which is witnessing rapid changes.
The visit program includes high-level official meetings, most notably a dinner hosted by the Élysée Palace in honor of the Mauritanian president, in addition to an extensive session of talks with the French president, which is expected to focus on investment opportunities and strengthening strategic partnerships.

Mauritania is a key partner for France
This visit comes in a sensitive international and regional context, as Mauritania stands out as a key partner for France in the Sahel region, in light of the decline of French influence in a number of countries in the region, such as Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
The Mauritanian president had held several previous meetings with his French counterpart, both during his participation in international summits and through reciprocal official visits, reflecting the advanced level of coordination between Mauritania and France in various fields.
Earlier, Mauritania’s Commissioner for Food Security, Fatma Bint Khatri, discussed with a delegation from the French Development Agency, headed by its Director General in Mauritania, Ignace Moncam Devereaux, ways to strengthen and develop cooperation relations in the field of food security between the two sides.
The Commission said in a statement that the meeting addressed cooperation relations between the Commission and the French Agency, and also touched on supporting the resilience of vulnerable groups.
