The President of Liberia inaugurates the 179th anniversary celebrations of the country's independence by raising the national flag.

Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. opened the country’s 179th Independence Day celebrations this morning by leading a national flag-raising ceremony at Doris Williams Sports Arena in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, marking the start of official events to celebrate Independence Day.
The flag-raising ceremony followed the national celebration of independence and saw the participation of members of the Liberian Armed Forces, the National Police, the Executive Protection Service, the Immigration Service, the National Fire Service, along with other security institutions, in a scene that embodied national pride and the spirit of unity and belonging.
Affirming the values of freedom, peace, and national identity
As the Commander-in-Chief of the Liberian Armed Forces, President Boakai joined military personnel and security forces in saluting the national flag, affirming the enduring values it symbolizes, foremost among them freedom, peace, and national identity. He also commended the sacrifices of all those who have contributed to preserving Liberia’s sovereignty and its democratic path.
The flag-raising ceremony is one of the most prominent traditions of celebrating Independence Day in Liberia, as it symbolizes the resilience of the state and the commitment of its people to upholding the principles upon which it was founded, coinciding with the citizens commemorating the 179th anniversary of the independence of the oldest republic in Africa.
