The Union headquarters witnessed African In Addis Ababa, from May 14 to 23, 2026, the African Union Budget Retreat for 2027 will be held, with the participation of representatives of member states and financial and economic experts from the continent.

The meetings come at a time when the world is witnessing rapid economic and political changes, which pose increasing challenges to regional and international institutions, foremost among them the African Union.

Enhancing the efficiency of institutional work and achieving financial sustainability
The retreat addressed the discussion of the African Union’s draft budget for 2027, along with a review of the Union’s financing document, and a number of financial and administrative files related to the performance of the Union Commission and its affiliated bodies, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of institutional work and achieving financial sustainability for the continental organization.
Egypt affirms its support for financial reform within the Union
The Egyptian delegation participating affirmed Egypt’s support for efforts aimed at achieving financial sustainability within the African Union, with a focus on raising the efficiency of the use of available resources from member states, and working to rationalize spending in a way that ensures resources are directed towards development files and strategic priorities for the continent.
Enhancing the effectiveness of the continental organization and its ability to implement programs
The Egyptian delegation stressed the importance of developing self-financing mechanisms for the African Union, in light of global economic challenges and the increasing financial pressures facing many African countries, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the continental organization and its ability to implement development, peace, security and economic integration programs.
Egyptian participation specializing in meetings
The Egyptian delegation participating from the mission of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the African Union included Third Secretary Ahmed Amir, Third Secretary Heidi Ahmed, along with Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Finance for Policies and Economic Affairs, and the Egyptian expert on the Committee of Fifteen Finance Ministers (F15), which is the committee concerned with following up on financial issues and economic reforms within the African Union.
Strengthening the role of continental institutions in addressing economic and developmental challenges
Egypt’s participation reflects Cairo’s interest in supporting the path of financial and administrative reform within the African Union, and strengthening the role of continental institutions in facing economic and developmental challenges, especially with the growing need for sustainable financing that supports development and integration plans among African countries.
