South Sudan’s participation in this meeting comes within the framework of its efforts to enhance regional cooperation in the energy sector, and to keep pace with the strategic transformations taking place in the region, especially following the official launch of the regional electricity market during April.

The meeting is expected to discuss a number of key issues, most notably the launch of a competitive regional market for electricity, mobilizing investments in hydroelectric and solar energy, as well as exploring ways to link energy security with political stability in the countries of the region.

In a press statement, the minister affirmed the South Sudanese government's commitment to utilizing the meeting's outcomes to develop the national energy sector, enhance investment opportunities, and positively impact the improvement of electricity services, support the national economy, and provide job opportunities for young people.

The East African Power Pool (EAPP) is an important regional platform for promoting electricity integration among the countries of the region and developing electricity interconnection projects that serve the goals of sustainable development.
