In a move reflecting the growing ambition to enhance air connectivity between Africa and the United States, Royal Air Maroc launched its first direct flights between Casablanca and Los Angeles.
This makes it the second airline African It provides a direct air route to the capital of the global film industry, just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
A historic journey that strengthens the African presence in America
The inaugural flight departed from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on June 7, arriving in Los Angeles after a journey of about 12 hours, marking the opening of one of the most important new air routes between the two continents.

This new route represents a quantum leap for African travelers, as it shortens travel time and eliminates the need to stop at airports in Europe, the Middle East, or the East Coast of the United States, making access to the American West Coast easier than ever before.
Three weekly flights with Dreamliner aircraft
Royal Air Maroc announced the operation of the new flights three times a week on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, using modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which are characterized by their ability to carry out long flights with high efficiency and greater comfort for passengers.
This move comes just weeks after EgyptAir launched direct flights between Cairo and Los Angeles, reflecting a growing trend among African airlines to strengthen their presence in the US market and expand their transcontinental networks.
The World Cup is driving demand for travel.
The timing of the line's launch is of particular importance, as it coincides with preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Los Angeles is one of the main host cities for the tournament, hosting eight matches, including knockout stage matches.
The Moroccan company expects the new route to attract tourists, business people, football fans, and members of African communities residing in North America, in addition to travelers coming from West and Central African countries via Casablanca.
Towards a global African air hub
This route reinforces Casablanca’s position as a strategic air hub for the African continent, and gives Royal Air Maroc a strong boost a few years before Morocco hosts the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
Observers believe that the success of the new line after the 2026 World Cup will be an important indicator of its ability to achieve sustainable commercial viability and consolidate Morocco’s presence as a major African gateway to the Americas.
