The Rwandan Embassy in Cairo celebrates the 32nd anniversary of Liberation Day and affirms the strength of the partnership with Egypt.
The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda to the Arab Republic of Egypt, accredited to Libya and the Sultanate of Oman, celebrated the 32nd anniversary of Rwandan Liberation Day (Kwibohora 32).
This came during a reception held in Cairo, attended by Egyptian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, businessmen, academics, media professionals, members of the Rwandan community, and a number of friends of Rwanda.
The celebration evoked the memory of July 4, 1994, when the Rwandan Patriotic Army, the military wing of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, succeeded in ending the genocide against the Tutsi, signaling the beginning of the phase of state reconstruction and the consolidation of peace and national unity. The men and women who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Rwanda were also honored.
A milestone in the country's journey
In his keynote speech, the Rwandan Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Dr. Dan Munyaneza, emphasized that Liberation Day represents a pivotal historical milestone in the country's journey. He noted that Rwanda has transformed from a nation torn by divisions and conflicts into a model of stability and development, thanks to the wise leadership of President Paul Kagame, policies of national unity and good governance, and the resilience of the Rwandan people.
The ambassador stressed his country's commitment to supporting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, emphasizing that achieving lasting peace in eastern the Democratic Republic of Congo requires addressing the root causes of the crisis, dismantling armed groups with genocidal ideology, and rejecting genocide ideology.
The Development of Egyptian-Rwandan Relations
The ambassador reviewed the development of Egyptian-Rwandan relations, pointing to the official visit of President Paul Kagame to Cairo in September 2025, which witnessed the signing of a number of agreements in the fields of investment promotion, water resource management, housing and urban development, land allocation, and other areas of joint cooperation.
The ambassador invited attendees to visit Rwanda and explore the investment opportunities it offers, alongside its advanced innovation ecosystem and global tourism attractions, foremost among them being mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and safaris in Akagera National Park.
He expressed his appreciation to the Rwandan community in Egypt for their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Rwandan folklore performances
The ceremony included folklore performances by a Rwandan traditional dance troupe, reflecting the richness of Rwandan cultural heritage and values of unity and heroism.
On his part, Ambassador Karim Sherif, Assistant Egyptian Foreign Minister for African Affairs, praised Rwanda's achievements in the fields of recovery, reconciliation, and development over the past three decades during his speech as the guest of honor at the ceremony.
Egypt affirmed its keenness to enhance its historical partnership with Rwanda, and to expand bilateral cooperation that supports peace, stability, regional integration, and sustainable development on the African continent.
The celebration concluded with an affirmation of the commitment of both Egypt and Rwanda to continue strengthening bilateral relations and working together to achieve prosperity, peace, and sustainable development in Africa.
