Ivory Coast receives support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

$186 million for the period 2027-2029

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has announced $186.4 million in support for Côte d'Ivoire for the period 2027-2029.

Combating HIV, tuberculosis and malaria

A senior official from the fund said that Côte d'Ivoire will receive 157.9 million euros ($186.4 million) from the Global Fund for the period 2027-2029 to strengthen efforts to combat HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, while supporting its health system.

In this regard, Danielle Adjavi, head of the Country Coordination Mechanism (CCM) for Côte d'Ivoire, announced the funding at a press conference.

This funding is part of the Global Fund’s eighth grant cycle (GC8) and reflects the ongoing partnership between Côte d’Ivoire and the International Development Association.

Of the total amount, 53 million euros will be allocated to HIV programs, 10.8 million euros to tuberculosis control, and 94.1 million euros to malaria control.

Part of the funding will also be allocated to support the health system in Côte d'Ivoire, although the final allocation has not yet been determined.

Continued progress within a long-term partnership

This funding follows encouraging results. According to the Global Fund, Côte d'Ivoire has made remarkable progress over the past two decades.

AIDS-related deaths have decreased by 83% since 2002, while new HIV infections have decreased by approximately 90% during the same period, and cases of tuberculosis have decreased by approximately 40%.

In Côte d'Ivoire, where malaria is still widespread, prevention and treatment efforts have been intensified, which the Global Fund attributes to the distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets and the expansion of awareness campaigns.

The collaboration between Abidjan and the Global Fund remains a key driver for improving access to health care and strengthening the health system's capabilities.

In March 2024, six new grants with a total value of 230 million euros were signed with the Ministry of Health, Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage for the period 2024-2026.
