Egypt strengthens its health presence in Africa through medical convoys to Kenya and Tanzania

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aati met Foreign Minister The Ministry of International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad today welcomed the Egyptian medical delegation that visited both Tanzania and Kenya, headed by Professor Dr. Sherif Murad of Ain Shams University, as part of Egyptian efforts to support health cooperation with African brothers and strengthen partnership ties in the medical and health fields.

Minister Abdel-Aty affirmed that the health sector is one of the most important areas of cooperation with sister African countries, praising the tangible results achieved by the Egyptian medical convoy in Kenya and Tanzania on the ground, where it conducted medical examinations on large numbers of citizens and performed many surgical operations and specialized medical interventions in a number of precise specialties, in addition to delivering shipments of medicines and medical supplies in support of the health system in the two countries, which reflects Egypt’s keenness to contribute effectively to enhancing health services for African brothers and promoting continental integration in the health sector.

The Foreign Minister also stressed Egypt’s continued support for health initiatives directed towards African countries, which contribute to strengthening health security on the continent and improving the quality of health services provided to African citizens. He directed that the scope of these health initiatives be expanded to include a larger number of sister African countries in the coming period, through sending specialized medical convoys to other countries on the continent. He reiterated the importance of continuing to transfer leading expertise and experiences in the health and pharmaceutical fields, supporting capacity-building programs, enhancing the response to emergency health challenges, and providing medical supplies, vaccines, and pharmaceutical industries, which contributes to raising the efficiency of health systems in African countries and their ability to confront health crises efficiently and sustainably.

In the same context, the Foreign Minister listened to a presentation from members of the delegation about the results of the visit and the meetings they held with officials and medical personnel in both countries, and ways to enhance cooperation between Egyptian and African medical institutions and benefit from Egyptian expertise in the fields of healthcare, training, capacity building and various medical specialties.
