Official figures released by the Attorney General's Office of the State financialThe country recorded 1,338 cases of cybercrime in 2025, reflecting a significant increase in illegal digital activity compared to the previous period between July 2023 and January 2024, which saw only 232 complaints recorded, including 28 cases that were decided and 14 cases that were referred for investigation.

Cybercrimes recorded in the country include online fraud, identity theft, payment fraud, attacks on computer systems, and crimes committed on social media platforms.

The report issued by the National Cybercrime Unit, which operates under the authority of the Attorney General, highlights that this significant increase reflects the growing reliance on digital technology in daily life, which provides opportunities for fraudsters and hackers to exploit technical vulnerabilities, and places cybercrime issues at the forefront of the country’s legal and security challenges.

The data confirms that the backlog of pending legal cases is putting pressure on legal and investigative resources, and highlights the urgent need to enhance digital competencies and expertise among relevant authorities.

National Cybersecurity Strategy

In a proactive move to address these challenges, the financial authorities have officially adopted the National Cybersecurity Strategy for 2026-2030, which aims to strengthen the institutional and security framework for combating cybercrime. The strategy prioritizes the protection of the country's critical infrastructure, along with developing cyber incident response mechanisms, improving coordination among government institutions, and enhancing the technical capabilities of digital security professionals. The strategy also seeks to intensify international cooperation and information sharing with regional and international partners to ensure a secure and sustainable digital transformation.
