The president of the Chadian Football Federation participated, Tahir Awlawi HassanAlongside the Secretary General of the Federation, at the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup, which kicked off in Mexico on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in the presence of senior officials of world football and representatives of national federations from different continents.

The participation of Chadian Football Federation officials in this global sporting event confirms the Federation’s keenness to strengthen its presence within the international football system and develop its relations with sports institutions and continental and international federations, in a way that contributes to supporting the progress of Chadian football and opening new horizons for cooperation and partnerships.
10 African teams participating

The 2026 World Cup is the largest edition in the tournament's history, with 48 national teams participating for the first time, including 10 African teams, in competitions hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.
The tournament matches are scheduled to take place in 16 host cities over 39 days, from June 11 to July 19, 2026, amid expectations of unprecedented public and media attention for the world's most prominent sporting event.
The Chadian Football Federation's presence at the opening events reflects its interest in keeping up with developments in world football and enhancing Chad's standing in international sports forums.
In another development, UEFA announced the appointment of Somali referee Omar Artan, who was barred from entering USTo participate in the World Cup, to officiate the European Super Cup match.
In a statement released on Thursday, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin praised the efforts of the Somali referee just hours before the start of the FIFA World Cup.
Ceferin said that Omar Artan is a young referee with a lot of experience, and has proven himself at the highest competitive level in the Confederation of African Football, explaining that football is designed to connect people, and UEFA wants to show its respect for Omar and his outstanding refereeing skills, which have earned him the prestigious nomination.
UEFA announced today that, following discussions with the African Football Confederation, Somali referee Omar Artan has been appointed to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup match, to be held on August 12 in Salzburg, Austria, between Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and Europa League winners Aston Villa.
