Cairo witnessed on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the convening of the first round of political consultations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville, in a step that reflects the growing bilateral relations and the keenness of the two countries to enhance political and economic cooperation, and to expand the prospects of partnership in various fields of common interest.
The Egyptian side was headed by Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr Saleh, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, with the participation of Ambassador Mohamed Karim Sherif, Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, and Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Gad, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Department of African Organizations and Gatherings, while the Congolese side was headed by Mr. Guy Nestor ITOUA, Secretary General of the Congolese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Strengthening bilateral relations tops the list of the first political consultations between Egypt and Congo-Brazzaville
The consultations came within the framework of the momentum witnessed in relations between Cairo and Brazzaville during the recent period, following the visit of the former Congolese Foreign Minister to Egypt in December 2025, and the telephone call made by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to his Congolese counterpart to congratulate him on his re-election as President of the country in April 2026, in addition to the participation of the Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs in the inauguration ceremony of the Congolese President.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and intensify joint cooperation, in preparation for holding the meetings of the joint committee between the two countries during the coming period, in order to contribute to raising the level of political, economic and developmental cooperation between the two sides.
The two delegations also exchanged views on the most prominent regional and international issues of common interest, as they discussed developments in the Horn of Africa, security in the Red Sea, the situation in the Sahel region and Central and West Africa, in addition to the latest developments in Libya, Sudan, the Great Lakes region and the Nile Basin countries, as well as the water file, and opportunities for trilateral and multilateral cooperation in a way that serves the common interests of African countries.
On the economic front, the consultations reviewed mechanisms for enhancing trade and investment cooperation, emphasizing the importance of encouraging private sector participation in the Business Summit scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the African Union Coordination Summit in October 2026. The two sides also discussed efforts to establish an Egyptian investment fund for Africa led by the private sector, with support from the government and financial institutions, with the aim of providing the necessary guarantees for the implementation of development projects on the continent.
The consultations concluded by emphasizing the importance of strengthening the principle of African solutions to African problems, supporting economic and investment cooperation, expanding the presence of Egyptian companies in Congo-Brazzaville, and intensifying mutual visits between officials of the two countries during the next stage, in order to enhance the path of strategic partnership and support development and stability efforts in the African continent.
