Egypt affirms its full support for Burundi during its presidency of the African Union.
Cairo supports Bujumbura in its bid to succeed as president of the African Union.

Ambassador Dr. Obaida El-Dandrawi, representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the African Union, met with Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe, Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative of his country to the African Union, and Chairman of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, within the framework of ongoing consultations on issues included on the agenda of joint African action.
Cairo supports Bujumbura in its bid to succeed as president of the African Union.
The meeting addressed a number of priority topics of interest to the member states of the African Union during the current stage, in addition to discussing the files on the agenda of the Burundian presidency of the African Union, and ways to advance integration and cooperation efforts between African countries in a way that serves the interests of the continent and its people.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Obaida Al-Dandrawi affirmed the Arab Republic of Egypt’s full support for the Republic of Burundi during its presidency of the African Union, stressing Cairo’s keenness to cooperate and coordinate with Bujumbura in order to make this presidency a success and achieve the desired goals, in a way that contributes to strengthening joint African action and consolidating the principles of solidarity and cooperation among member states.
The Egyptian ambassador pointed to the importance of continuing efforts to address the common challenges facing the African continent, and to work on implementing development, stability and security priorities, in line with the aspirations of the African peoples and the goals of the African Union's development agenda.
For his part, Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continued support for the African Union and for the various initiatives aimed at strengthening continental action, stressing the importance of continued coordination and consultation among member states to ensure tangible results during the Burundian presidency.
This meeting comes within the framework of intensive diplomatic efforts taking place in the corridors of the African Union to enhance coordination between member states on issues of common interest, and to support regional and continental cooperation paths in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development and stability throughout the African continent.
The meeting was attended on the Egyptian side by Ahmed Amir, Third Secretary, where the importance of continued communication and coordination between the two sides during the next phase was emphasized.
