The consultations addressed the latest developments in Egypt's development vision for the African continent, particularly in the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, Sudan, and the Sahel. This vision encompasses political, economic, developmental, and cultural dimensions, aiming to formulate sustainable solutions to the crises in these regions, most importantly restoring stability in conflict zones. The consultations also addressed the evolving situation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, specifically the tensions that threaten to undermine regional stability and hinder the shared development vision between Egypt and these countries. This is due to unilateral actions taken by some countries in the region that contravene the principle of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Egyptian side reviewed the development of relations with the Nile Basin countries, and Egypt’s announcement of the launch of a mechanism with initial funding of $100 million to finance development projects in the Nile Basin countries, with the support of the political leadership and with continuous coordination between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Irrigation, in light of Egypt’s keenness to formulate an integrated development vision with the countries of the basin.

The latest developments in the “consultative process” within the framework of the Nile Basin Initiative were also discussed, as well as the role of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), which has provided technical support to the consultative process since its inception.

In the same context, the consultations touched on the latest developments in Sudan, and ways to build on the results of the “International Conference on Humanitarian Affairs on Sudan” held in Berlin in April 2020, by formulating a comprehensive vision for a consensual political solution in a way that guarantees the unity of Sudanese territory and respects its sovereignty. The two sides agreed on the need to continue coordination between Egypt and Germany to support efforts aimed at a humanitarian truce that will pave the way for a sustainable ceasefire.
