First visit in 50 years: Tanzanian president heads to Russia
Tanzania is preparing to begin implementing its National Vision 2050.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has left the country for RussiaAt the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he is on a visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic, trade and investment relations between Tanzania and Russia.
In a statement before her departure, Suluhu said that the visit represents a milestone in Tanzania's diplomatic history, as it is the second visit by a Tanzanian head of state to Russia since the historic trip made by founding leader Mwalimu Julius Nyerere in October 1969, more than five decades after the visit of founder Mwalimu Julius.
Launch of Tanzania Vision 2050
The visit aims to launch Tanzania Vision 2050, enhance cooperation in strategic sectors, and hold business forums to open the Russian market to Tanzanian products.
The visit comes at a time when Moscow is actively engaging with world leaders through high-level diplomatic exchanges, placing Tanzania among a select group of countries working to deepen strategic ties with Russia amid a changing global order.
Soloho noted that the visit comes at a crucial moment as Tanzania prepares to begin implementing its National Vision 2050, which focuses heavily on private sector participation as a key driver of economic transformation.
The visit is of particular importance
She said the visit is of particular importance as we approach the implementation of Vision 2050, which calls for increased private sector participation in national development.
She added that during the visit, discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in strategic sectors that directly affect citizens' livelihoods, including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, education and industrial development.
Soloho said their focus is on ensuring that this partnership translates into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.
The head of state also revealed that she will participate in business and investment forums aimed at showcasing Tanzania’s economic opportunities to Russian investors, as well as working to expand export markets for Tanzanian goods.
Opening Russian markets to Tanzanian products
She added that she will participate in business and investment platforms to showcase the opportunities available in the country, and at the same time, will work to open up wider markets for Tanzanian products in Russia and abroad.
The visit is expected to bolster Tanzania’s foreign policy agenda in the area of economic diplomacy, with a focus on attracting foreign direct investment and strengthening bilateral cooperation with key global partners.
The delegation accompanying the president is expected to participate in a series of high-level meetings, bilateral talks and investment promotion sessions throughout the visit.
