President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended his sincere condolences to the state of Qatar, its leadership, government, and people, on the passing of the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whose death was announced by the Qatari Amiri Diwan on Sunday morning at the age of 74.
President Sisi said, on his official social media page: “Sincere condolences and sympathy to the brotherly State of Qatar, its Emir, government, and people, on the death of the late, God willing, His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. We ask God to have mercy on him, and to perpetuate security and stability for Qatar and its people. To God we belong and to Him we shall return.”.
Passing of the Father Emir
The Amiri Diwan of Qatar announced in an official statement the death of the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, noting that he passed away this Sunday morning, July 12, 2026, corresponding to Muharram 27, 1448 AH, at the age of 74.
The Amiri Diwan mourned the deceased, describing him as a ”great loss to the nation,” praying to God to encompass him with His vast mercy and reward him with the best for what he has offered to the State of Qatar and the Arab and Islamic nations, and to inspire his family and the Qatari people with patience and solace.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is one of the most prominent leaders in Qatar's modern history. He assumed power between 1995 and 2013, and during his reign, the country witnessed a broad renaissance in the fields of economy, infrastructure, education, and foreign policy, before handing over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in 2013.
