A large-scale cleaning campaign in the vicinity of Hassan Djamous International Airport in N'Djamena as part of the “Citizen Saturday” initiative”

The municipality of N'Djamena, the Chadian capital, continues to implement its programs aimed at improving the urban environment and upgrading public facilities, by launching a comprehensive cleaning campaign targeting the vicinity of Hassan Djamous International Airport. This initiative is part of the “Citizen Saturday” campaign launched by the city's mayor, Senoussi Hassana Abdallah, to promote a culture of volunteerism and maintain the cleanliness of the capital.

This campaign is part of a broader plan adopted by the local authorities to improve the city's general appearance, reduce environmental pollution, and provide a healthy and safe environment for citizens and visitors, especially in vital locations that represent Chad's facade to those arriving from abroad.

Airport environmental improvement fieldwork

The campaign saw the participation of technical teams from the Department of Cleanliness, Environment, and Health, who carried out intensive work including the removal of accumulated waste, cleaning of roads and open spaces, uprooting weeds and grass that grew in the areas surrounding the airport, in addition to leveling a number of neglected sites.

Field teams also worked to improve the visual appearance of the entrances leading to the airport, contributing to a more organized and clean environment, and reflecting a positive image of the Chadian capital as an important administrative and economic center in the region.

The municipality confirmed that these efforts will continue in the coming period to include other areas within the capital, as part of a periodic program aimed at maintaining the cleanliness of the city and improving the quality of services provided to residents.

Hassan Djamous International Airport is Chad's main air gateway, receiving thousands of passengers annually and connecting the country to a number of regional and international destinations, making maintaining the cleanliness of its surroundings and the upkeep of its facilities a priority for local authorities.

The N'Djamena municipality believes that improving the environment surrounding the airport is not limited to aesthetics alone, but also contributes to enhancing public health standards, reducing the spread of insects and pollutants, as well as creating a positive impression for visitors and investors coming to the country.

The campaign falls under the “Citizen Saturday” initiative, which aims to involve citizens, government institutions, and civil society organizations in cleaning and urban beautification efforts and to solidify a culture of collective responsibility towards maintaining public property.

The initiative seeks to transform cleanliness into a permanent societal behavior, by organizing weekly campaigns that include cleaning streets, public squares, and government facilities, in addition to implementing awareness activities about the importance of preserving the environment and reducing pollution.

Officials believe that public participation in these initiatives contributes to raising environmental awareness and strengthens cooperation between local authorities and the community, which positively reflects on the quality of life within the capital.
