Eswatini and Japan Sign Green Airport Digital Deal

Eswatini and Japan signed an agreement on Tuesday to establish a project aimed at introducing renewable energy technologies and smart logistics at King Mswati III International Airport.
The Green and Digital Transformation (GX-DX) project between Japan and Eswatini aims to reduce high energy costs, decrease carbon-intensive operations, and modernize cargo handling processes through solar power systems, energy-efficient upgrades, and digital coordination tools.

The Japan-funded initiative, implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority of Eswatini with support from the United Nations Development Programme, will include the installation of solar power systems, the upgrading of charging facilities with smart and energy-efficient technologies, and the introduction of digital coordination tools designed to improve cargo handling and reduce delays.
Facilitating trade and enhancing Eswatini's regional competitiveness
According to the Eswatini government, the project is expected to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen trade facilitation, and boost Eswatini's regional competitiveness.
Public Works and Transport Minister Ndindilalaza Ndwandwe described the signing as a major step towards a more environmentally friendly, resilient, and technologically advanced aviation sector.
