South African authorities have opened a wide-ranging investigation into the killing of Andile Mfuwesilwa Somgaksa, the Gauteng provincial leader of the anti-immigration “March and March” movement, after he was shot outside his home in Johannesburg and died from his injuries days later.
South African police announced the formation of a multidisciplinary team comprising investigators and officers from the Criminal Intelligence Service, a move reflecting the importance the authorities attach to the case, amid growing concerns about its security and political repercussions.
