Twenty-seven members of the al-Shabaab movement were killed in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Jubaland state, in an operation carried out with international support.
This came according to what was announced by the Somali Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, explaining that its armed forces and regional security forces carried out the operation.

Despite mentioning them, the ministry did not name the international partners who provided support, but it clarified that the operation was supported by airstrikes.

The militants were killed in a large-scale operation in the Lower and Middle Juba regions; weapons and landmines were seized, and prominent members of the movement were among the dead.
The African Union peacekeeping mission continues to support the Somali government in its fight against al-Shabaab, even though the group still controls large swathes of the countryside and retains the ability to carry out frequent attacks on major population centers.

In a similar context, the US military carried out airstrikes as part of its support for efforts against al-Shabaab, which has been waging an insurgency for two decades to overthrow the country's central government and impose its rule.
