Minister of Irrigation: Development projects worth $100 million to be implemented in Nile Basin countries

Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, held a meeting Intensive meetings With representatives of a number of Egyptian companies, namely: Arab Contractors, Wadi El Nile, Hassan Allam, Elsewedy, Orascom, and the Egyptian African Company for Development Projects, and in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This comes to discuss the readiness of these companies to participate in the implementation of a number of development projects in the countries of the southern Nile Basin, within the framework of the financing mechanism launched by Egypt with a value of $100 million, with the support of the political leadership and under the directives of the Prime Minister, and in close coordination between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which aims to support the implementation of development projects and studies in the countries of the Nile Basin.
Providing the necessary funding for priority projects
During the meeting, Dr. Sweilem stressed that this financing mechanism represents a practical model of constructive cooperation between Egypt and sister countries, and contributes to providing the necessary financing for priority projects that achieve direct developmental returns for citizens, thus enhancing development and stability paths and serving the common interests of the peoples of the region.

He stressed that the Egyptian state pays great attention to strengthening cooperation with the Nile Basin countries in various fields, based on the historical relations that bind Egypt to the countries of the basin, and keen to support sustainable development efforts and improve the standard of living of citizens in the sister countries, noting Egypt’s keenness to enhance the participation of Egyptian national companies in implementing development projects with a direct impact in the Nile Basin countries.
He pointed out that the projects proposed to be implemented in the countries of the southern Nile Basin aim to support the economic and social development of these countries, through the implementation of projects and studies that contribute to improving the management of natural resources and enhancing the ability of local communities to benefit from the available resources.
This will positively impact the lives of citizens and support the achievement of the desired development, while studying opportunities to implement some projects of an investment and sustainable development nature, which will open up broader horizons for the participation of Egyptian companies and the Egyptian private sector in supporting development efforts in sister countries.
For his part, Dr. Sweilem stressed the importance of Egyptian companies adhering to the highest standards of quality and efficiency when starting to implement projects, noting that Egyptian companies have demonstrated great efficiency and capabilities in implementing major development and infrastructure projects in a number of African countries, reflecting their technical and executive expertise that qualifies them to participate effectively in supporting development efforts in the countries of the southern Nile Basin.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Sweilem stressed that these efforts come within the framework of the Egyptian state’s policy aimed at strengthening cooperation with the Nile Basin countries, supporting joint development, and consolidating the principles of partnership and integration, in order to achieve the common interests of all the peoples of the Nile River Basin.
