The events have begun championship The African Junior Chess Championships will be held in Entebbe, Uganda, from May 14 to 23, 2026, with wide participation from African teams.
Egypt is represented in this tournament by a delegation from the Egyptian Chess Federation comprising players of various age groups, in an important step to support the development of the game and enhance the Egyptian presence on the continental scene.
Visit of the Egyptian ambassador and support for the national team
The Egyptian ambassador in Kampala, Munther Selim, met with the Egyptian national team delegation during their stay at the tournament, and praised the role the delegation plays in representing Egypt among the African teams.
Ambassador Walid Mohamed Ahmed, head of the delegation, welcomed all the participating Egyptian players, expressing his wishes for their success and good fortune during the competitions.

The ambassador affirmed the readiness of the Egyptian embassy in Uganda to provide all necessary support to the mission, whether at the level of diplomatic guidance or facilitating logistical requirements, with the aim of creating a suitable environment that helps the players focus on the matches and achieve the best possible results.
For their part, the head and members of the delegation expressed their appreciation for the ambassador’s visit and his continued encouragement, stressing their determination to deliver a strong performance in the competitions and achieve honorable results in the name of Egypt.
The importance of the championship in the development of chess
The African Junior Chess Championship is one of the most prominent continental events in the game of chess, attracting groups of young players from various African countries to compete in multiple age categories.
This tournament contributes to honing the skills of young players, and gives them a valuable opportunity to learn from the experiences of their opponents and exchange expertise at a high technical level.
The tournament also serves as a platform to attract the attention of sports federations and clubs to the need to pay attention to chess as an integrated mental sport that has a positive impact on developing strategic thinking among young people and promoting a spirit of mental competition.
Egyptian national team aspirations
The Egyptian delegation aims to make a strong showing in the tournament and raise the Egyptian flag in the various rounds, benefiting from the training and preparation that the players underwent during the local season.
Those in charge of Egyptian chess hope that this participation will be the beginning of a series of successes in upcoming continental and international championships.
This participation comes amid growing interest in developing chess in Egypt, through organizing national and local championships and strengthening the base of junior practitioners, which contributes to building generations capable of international competition.
