The work of this session focused on assessing the commitments made by the two countries and accelerating the pace of joint projects between them. During the session, the Senegalese President Bassiro Diomaye Faye and the Gambian President Adama Barrow praised the ”progress made in recent years in terms of bilateral cooperation.”.

During the session, which concluded on Friday, the priorities for cooperation in the coming years were identified, with the two countries intending in particular to “continue efforts to demarcate the common border,” ”accelerate the implementation of the Sampangalo Dam project,” and ”strengthen cooperation in vital sectors such as energy, agriculture, trade, digital technology, and climate change adaptation.”.

The two presidents reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of peace, stability and good neighborliness, whether within the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union, or the United Nations.

According to a statement from the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they stressed the special historical, cultural and human ties that unite the Senegalese and Gambian peoples, and affirmed that “the border between the two countries should not be seen as a line of separation and division, but rather as a bridge of communication that serves a common destiny built on solidarity, integration and joint development.”.

The Senegalese president had visited Gambia on May 30, and discussed with his Gambian counterpart issues of peace and security regionally and internationally, and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
