The “Tourism Train” departed Ouagadougou on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 9:50 AM, and arrived at Bobo-Dioulasso train station at 5:30 PM amidst heavy rain. This symbolic arrival marks the beginning of the fourth edition of the major national tourism season, which officially launched on Saturday, July 4, in Samandeni. On board this special train, over 300 passengers enjoyed a unique travel experience, made possible by a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and the African International Railway Company (SITARAIL).

Peak domestic tourism season: Rail transport gamble attracts participants
As if to welcome visitors who came to discover the tourist attractions of Burkina Faso, heavy rains fell on the city of Bobo-Dioulasso the moment the train arrived at the station. Despite the bad weather, the travelers were overjoyed, happy to participate in this initiative that combines exploration, social interaction, and the promotion of domestic tourism.
More than 300 participants are experiencing train travel.
For many of them, this trip was their first experience on a train, an adventure they hope to repeat. Freddy Lino, the master of ceremonies, did not hide his joy after this first train ride.

He said: “This is my first time traveling by train in Burkina Faso. It's an adventure I must repeat. We were lucky to sit in first class, and the experience was wonderful. The atmosphere was great, comfort was available, and the air conditioning was excellent. I thank the ministry for making this trip possible.”.

Besides the enjoyment of the trip itself, Lino believes this initiative is an excellent way to introduce Burkina Faso citizens to it. “I commend this initiative within the framework of the great domestic tourism season. Our country is full of immense potential. Rediscovering one's homeland always brings great pleasure.” “I congratulate the organizers and hope that future editions will be even better,” he commented.
